Getting Started with Per Diem Imaging Work: Credentials, Licensing, First Shift
To start working per diem in medical imaging, you need current credentials, a completed and verified profile, and a facility willing to book you. The path is short: get your credentials in order, create and verify a profile, browse open shifts, request one, and show up prepared.
1. Get your credentials in order
Most imaging shifts require current certification and licensure. For many technologists that means ARRT certification, a state license in the states where you plan to work, and current basic life support (BLS) certification. Individual modalities and facilities may require more, such as advanced modality registries or specific competencies. Confirm exactly what your target shifts require and make sure nothing is close to expiring.
2. Create and verify your profile
Once your credentials are current, you build a profile once. On WhiteBadge, you add your licenses, certifications, and qualifications, and each one is verified against the source before you can request shifts. Doing this up front means a facility never has to re-check your paperwork, and you never have to resubmit it for each shift.
3. Find shifts that fit
With a verified profile, you can browse open shifts filtered to what matters to you: modality, distance from home, pay, and date. Because the pay is shown before you accept, you can compare shifts directly and pick the ones that fit your week rather than negotiating each one.
4. Request and confirm a shift
When a shift looks right, you request it. The facility reviews the request and confirms, at which point the shift is booked. There is no long-term contract attached, so booking one shift does not commit you to anything beyond that shift.
5. Prepare for your first shift
Before your first shift at a new site, review the location, parking, start time, and any site notes provided with the posting. Arriving early gives you time to find the department, meet the person you are reporting to, and get oriented to the equipment. Bringing your credentials and identification is always a safe habit, even when they are already verified in the app.
After the shift: timesheets and pay
When the shift ends, your hours are submitted as a digital timesheet for the facility to approve. Once approved, payment is processed on a weekly cycle. Tracking your completed shifts and hours in one place also makes it easier to plan your schedule and manage taxes if you work as a contractor.
- You generally need current ARRT certification, state licensure where required, and BLS.
- Credentials are verified once, up front, then reused for every shift you request.
- Shifts are browsable by modality, location, pay, and date.
- Requesting a shift takes a single step; the facility confirms before it is booked.
- After the shift, hours are submitted as a digital timesheet and paid on a weekly cycle.
